Dove Canyon, CA - The UC Riverside women's golf team continued to lower its team scores in each successive round at the Anteater Invitational at Dove Canyon Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, but it wasn't enough to make up any ground as the team finished out the tournament in 15th place out of 15 teams.
The Highlanders fired rounds of 341-318-311 for a 970 total, 12 strokes behind 14th place.
San Diego State won the team title with a three-round 899 while the University of San Francisco placed second at 905, and Kentucky finished third with a 912.
Big West Conference opponents UC Irvine and Long Beach State rounded out the top-5 with scores of 914 and 915 respectively to finish fourth and fifth.
Freshman Amelia Ek finished tied for 40th to lead UCR with scores of 81-76-81 (238). Senior Alexandra Erdman lowered her scores in each round to tie for 56th with a 242 (84-82-76), while Tiffany Koyano enjoyed her best score in the third round by firing 85-86-76 (247) to place T66th.
Natalie Guidry also got better as each round progressed, shooting 91-79-78 (248) to finish 70th, while Denyse Neville placed 79th with a three-round 259 (91-81-87). Playing as an individual, Linda Ong fired rounds of 83-93-78 (254) to finish 74th.
The University of Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro won individual medalist honors by shooting a three-round 214.
The Highlanders return to the links at the Cowgirl Classic on Apr. 5-6 in Chandler, AZ.
