Softball Can't Complete Series Sweep With 4-1 Loss To Gauchos

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside softball team couldn't complete the series sweep over visiting UC Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 loss in Big West Conference action at Amy S. Harrison Field. The Highlanders drop to 21-21 on the season and 6-3 in league play while the Gauchos improve to 10-30, 1-8.
UC Santa Barbara took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when a single by Jackie Sweet scored Keilani Jennings from second base.
The Highlanders tied the game at one apiece in the fourth inning when Alexis Villamor's (pictured) RBI single plated Brittany Keeney from second.
However, the tie was short-lived as the Gauchos exploded for three runs in fifth inning to retake the lead, 4-1.
UCR had an opportunity to put some more runs on the board an inning later, but they stranded runners at first and second to end the inning, and went three-up, three-down in the seventh.
Marissa Alvidrez got the loss for the Highlanders, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up four earned runs. Krista Cobb earned the win for UCSB, going all seven innings and allowing just one run.
UC Riverside returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 24 with a doubleheader against Pacific starting at noon at Amy S. Harrison Field in Riverside, CA.
