Moreno Valley City Council Honors UCR Women's Basketball

The Moreno Valley City Council honored the UC Riverside women's basketball team at their May 25 council meeting. Head Coach John Margaritis, Assistant Coach Jody Reding, and members of the team were in attendance to accept the honor. View the video or listen to audio from the event.
The Highlanders won the 2010 Big West Basketball Tournament Championship on Mar. 13 after defeating UC Davis 71-67. UCR claimed its third title in five years having won the tournament in the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
UC Riverside also made its fourth trip to the postseason in five years and its third NCAA Tournament. The #16 seeded Highlanders faced off against #1 seeded and No. 2 nationally ranked Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Mar. 20, losing 79-47.
The Highlanders had a 3-12 record just a few games into league play in early January, but turned it around going 14-4 to close out the season and tying for second in the Big West standings.
After a tiebreaker bumped the Highlanders to the third seed in the conference tournament, the team won three straight games in as many days to advance to their third NCAA Tournament.
