Men's Soccer Season Gets Underway On Road At San Jose St. (push play)

Riverside—The 2010 UC Riverside Men's Soccer season gets underway this week as the Highlanders travel northward to San Jose State for a Wednesday, September 1 meeting with the Spartans. Kick off is scheduled for 7 pm PT. (Watch the season preview video)
The Highlanders posted back-to-back 2-0 wins over Cal Baptist and UNLV in the preseason while the Spartans upended UC Santa Cruz in their lone preseason scimmage.
UC Riverside and San Jose State have met six times previously with both teams winning three matches. The Highlanders are 0-2, however, on the road in the series. Tyler Wilson and Normando Mariscal each scored in UCR's 2-1 win over San Jose State a year ago.
GAME NOTES
TAKING OFFENSE
The Highlanders scored 22 goals during the 2008 season but managed just 12 a year ago. The team returns its top four point scorers from 2009, however, and scored two goals in each of their preseason matches.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Cody Suppé was the Highlanders primary keeper from a year ago posting a 1.79 goals against average in 13 matches. He returns for his sophomore campaign, and is joined by Alex Abelson and transfer Nick Goldreich.
CLOSE CALLS
The Highlanders lost nine games during the 2010 season by one goal.
