Men's Tennis Falls In Season Opener 4-3 To Nevada

Northridge, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team opened the 2011 spring season with a tough 4-3 loss to Nevada on Friday afternoon.
UCR's duo of Austin Andres and Kevin Griffin partnered at #3 doubles to defeat Nevada's Reix/Walker 8-2, but the Highlanders lost matches at the first and second spots to drop the doubles point.
In singles play, the Highlanders won three matches and had opportunities at the top two positions to win, but could not pull it out.
Quoc Doan defeated Kristian Kurharszky 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at #2, while Ryan Stanbury defeated Nathan Reix 6-2, 6-2 at #5, and Kevin Griffin defeated Kyle Walker 6-2, 6-1 at #6.
"This was a 200 percent improvement," Head Coach York Strother stated. "We stayed focused and competed well."
The Highlanders continue their season-opening weekend with a 10:00 am match at San Diego State on Sunday, January 16.
