Fullerton, CA - The UC Riverside women's tennis team split the singles matches but dropped the doubles point in a heart breaking 4-3 loss at Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday afternoon.
The Highlanders duo of Jamie and Taylor Raney defeated Mai and Rodriguez 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Angelique Corpuz and Kate Bergeson almost gave UCR the doubles point, but they fell 8-6 to De La Cruz and Akhmedova at No. 3.
Since the Titans took the first point of the match, the Highlanders needed to win four of six singles matches to claim the victory, but fell just shy as they split, giving Cal State Fullerton the win.
Jamie Raney won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 7-5 while Natalie McKay surrended just two points in a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4, and Bergeson won at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-2 for the third UCR point.
The Highlanders now prepare for the Big West Championship beginning on Thursday, April 29 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, CA.
