UCR Drops Nail Biter 4-2 To Cal State Fullerton In Big West First Round

Indian Wells, CA - The UC Riverside women's tennis team concluded the season with a nail biting 4-2 loss to Cal State Fullerton in the first round of the Big West Championship on Thursday afternoon at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Titans took the first point of the match by winning two of three in doubles action. UCR's Nadia Sakhakorn and Natalie McKay won their match at No. 2 doubles 8-2 over Megan Sandford and Morgan McIntosh, but both Highlanders teams at Nos. 1 and 3 dropped identical 8-6 matches.
Tiffany Mai and Monica Rodriguez of Fullerton defeated Jamie and Taylor Raney at No. 1, while Karina Akhmedova and Malorie Dela Cruz got the best of Angelique Corpuz and Kate Bergeson at No. 3.
In singles play, the Highlanders tied the match at one as McKay won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. The Titans then took a 3-1 lead as Corpuz lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 and Sakhakorn fell 7-6 (1), 6-0 at No. 2.
Jamie Raney then won her match at No. 3 for UC Riverside, closing the score to 3-2 with her 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3.
The deciding match came at No. 6, and UCR fell just short as Bergeson lost 7-6 (2), 6-2 to Dela Cruz of Fullerton, as the Titans went on for the 4-2 victory.
