Riverside, CA - Jordyn McDonald shutout Long Beach State on Saturday by allowing just three hits over seven innings as the UC Riverside softball team concluded the 2011 season with a 3-0 victory at Amy S. Harrison Field.
The Highlanders (13-33, 6-15) took the lead from the beginning and sent their five seniors off in style with the win.
UCR took the early advantage for the third consecutive game, this time platting single runs in each of the first three innings.
With the bases loaded in the first, LBSU pitcher Erin Jones-Wesley walked Brittany Keeney to bring in the first run. In the second, Kayla White's double off the centerfield fence scored Nicole Carter to make it 2-0 UCR.
An inning later, Kameryn Hebenton lifted a ball over center field for her fifth home run of the season, pushing the Highlanders advantage to 3-0.
After McDonald loaded the bases in the first inning, the 49ers' bats fell silent as UCR's starter allowed just two base runners from the second through sixth innings.
In the top of the seventh, McDonald again loaded the bases and allowed the winning run at the plate for Long Beach State, but she got out the jam as Nalani St. Germain grounded out to second.
McDonald tossed just 87 pitches during the game and recorded her first-ever shutout to earn the win. Jones-Wesley suffered the loss for the 49ers.
White went 2-for-3 from the plate with one run and an RBI to lead UCR offensively.
Prior to first pitch, the Highlanders honored their five seniors during the Senior Day festivites: Dawn Brodersen, Nicole Carter, Taylor Thomas, Brooke Hebenton, and Kameryn Hebenton.
