Seattle, WA—The UC Riverside Indoor Track & Field season gets underway this weekend with a trip north to Seattle for the Washington Invitational, Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28.
One of the biggest track meets in the country, the UW Invitational is open to all Division I athletes and teams. The two-day event includes a two-day multi-event competition, and is held at storied Dempsey Indoor.
The invitational gets underway on Friday with running events beginning with the women's pentathlon's 60m hurdles at 2 pm, and field events commencing at 2:45 with the women's pentathlon's high jump. Saturday begins with the men's 3,000m and both the men's and women's long jump at 10 am.
One year ago, the Highlanders set four school records at the meet as Danielle Littleton took second in her 60m hurdles heat and 15th overall with a time of 8.92. That broke the school mark of 9.14 originally set by Mary Timm back on February 1, 2003.
Dane Endly '07 had his name erased from the UCR record books in two places as freshman Justin Harris (6.91) and sophomore Hernell Dyer (6.93) both broke the Highlanders school mark in the 60m, finishing fourth and fifth in the event; and Harris took fifth in the 200m with a time of 21.86. Endly's previous benchmarks were 6.97 in the 60m set on January 31, 2004, and 21.97 in the 200m on February 14, 2004.
The ink on junior Travis Smith's program shot put record was barely dry as he bettered his February 15, 2010 toss of 54' 0" by 6.75 inches.
