Roberts Wins Singles Match For Men's Tennis At ITA Southwest Regional Championship

Irvine, CA - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis team opened the ITA Southwest Regional Championship Friday with action in singles and doubles competition.
Jimmy Roberts got things going in the first round of singles with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Hawai'i's Chris Meyers. He then fell to UCLA's Marcos Giron in the second round, 6-2, 6-1.
Roberts paired up with Luis Gastao for the lone doubles match of the day, dropping an 8-1 decision to Arizona's Shinde and Thompson.
In other singles play, Julian Ruffin fell 6-3, 6-2 to UCSB's Ziad Sultan, while Gastao lost 6-0, 6-1 to Yannick Hanfmann of USC.
Doubles action continues tomorrow with UCR's Ruffin/Calvin Ngo taking the court at 9 am PT. Consolation Singles with Ruffin and Gastao will take place at approximately noon.
