Winning Streak Continues For Men's Tennis In 4-3 Victory Against Idaho State

Las Vegas, NV—Playing in its third match in as many days, the UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team kept its winning streak alive by defeating Idaho State by a score of 4-3 on Monday morning.
The Highlanders have won their last three matches, tying their season-best streak set earlier in the year on February 10-11.
Against the Bengals, UC Riverside had an opportunity to win the doubles point, but fell just shy. UCR's No. 1 doubles team of Austin Andres and Felix Macherez made quick work of their opponent with an 8-2 victory, but the Highlanders lost 9-8 at No. 2, and 8-6 at No. 3.
In singles, though, UCR rebounded to win four of the six matches to claim the 4-3 victory. Three of those wins were in three sets, with Macherez, Jimmy Roberts, and Luis Gastao pulling through in the final frame.
Macherez won the first set 6-4 but dropped a 7-6 battle in the second set before winning 6-3 in the third over Charles Norman at No. 1.
Roberts rallied back from a 6-1 first-set loss to Nate Gross to win 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. Andres defeated Krzysztof Stempien in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, while Gastao defeated Dan Buckingham 6-4, 1-6, 6-0.
The Highlanders remain on the road for a March 31 contest at Sacramento State beginning at 1:00 pm in Sacramento, CA.
