Women's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker To Cal State Fullerton, 4-3

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Tennis team completed its regular season schedule on Thursday afternoon with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Cal State Fullerton in Big West Conference action on the team's senior day.
The Highlanders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after winning the doubles point, taking two of three matches.
UCR's No. 1 doubles duo of Jamie Raney and Taylor Raney defeated Tiffany Mai and Morgan McIntosh 8-2, while at No. 3, Kate Bergeson and Courtney Pattugalan made quick work of their opponents, winning 8-1.
In singles action, the Highlanders took home victories at Nos. 3 and 4, as Taylor Raney won 6-0, 6-2 over Monica Rodriguez, and Natalie McKay defeated Malorie dela Cruz 6-3, 6-4.
The Titans won matches at Nos. 1 and 5, however, closing the gap to 3-2. Kat Saltarelli then lost a tight 6-3, 7-5 battle at No. 2 as Cal State Fullerton tied the match at 3-3.
The deciding factor came at No. 6 singles, and after battling back from a 6-0 loss in the first set, Bergeson won the second set 6-3, but could not prevail as Jessica Pepa won the third 6-3 to clinch the match for the Titans.
The Highlanders now prepare for the Big West Conference Championship beginning on Thursday, April 26 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, CA.
