Men's Tennis Drops Season Opener At #67 San Diego State, 7-0

San Diego, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team got its 2013 spring season underway Friday evening, falling to #67 San Diego State, 7-0.
"SDSU is a solid team," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "Their players hit through the court well with lots of pace. We fought hard and I was very proud of our effort."
In doubles action, the Aztecs took the first point with wins at numbers one and two.
In singles play, each of the matches went two sets in favor of SDSU, except for Dickson at #6. After losing the first set 6-1, the sophomore won 7-6 (6) in the second set before ultimately falling 10-7 in the tiebreaker.
"Kelly was very inspiring tonight," Downey explained. "And he was constantly improving throughout the match, which is what we are looking for all year.
We are going to get better," Downey concluded. "We learned a lot today, and we are looking forward to getting after Fresno State on Sunday."
The Highlanders now travel up north to face the Bulldogs on Sunday, January 19 at 3 pm PT in Fresno, CA.
