Hot Shooting By Long Beach State Lifts Them Past Women's Basketball, 80-66

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team dropped an 80-66 decision to Long Beach State Saturday afternoon in Big West Conference action at the SRC Arena.
The Highlanders fall to 11-12 overall and 4-8 in league play, while the 49ers improve to 14-11, 7-6.
Tre'Shonti Nottingham scored a game-high 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 7-7 from the foul line. Brittany Crain added 17 points for the Highlanders while Natasha Hadley had 14.
Ella Clark led four 49ers players in double-figures with 16 points.
Both teams were sizzling from the field in the first half, as Long Beach State hit 57.1 percent including 60.0 percent from beyond the arc, while UC Riverside shot 52.0 percent from the floor including a 66.7 mark from three-point range.
But it was the 49ers who jumped out to a 6-0 lead, and led 43-35 at the half.
The Highlanders would cut the LBSU lead to one on three occasions before tying the game at 16-16 following a three-point play from Nottingham.
Long Beach went back up by four, but UCR again tied it and took its first lead of the game, 22-20, after a Crain jumper at the 8:35 mark. The 49ers then ralled scoring nine of the next 11 points to lead 29-24, and pushed their advantage out to eight at the break, 43-35.
The 49ers continued their scoring to open the second period, outscoring UCR 7-2 to open a 13-point lead, 50-37, with 16:14 to go. UC Riverside then made a run, scoring six of the next seven points to cut the lead to eight, 51-43, capped off by a Hadley jumper with 12:43 remaining.
LBSU countered with another rally, pushing the margin out to 66-47 with seven and a half left in the period. The lead fluctuated between 12 and 17 points until a Nottingham three-pointer with 51 seconds to go cut it to 10, 74-64. The Highlanders could get no closer, however, as the 49ers scored six of the final eight points of the game for the victory.
For the game, Long Beach State hit 51.9 percent of its shots from the field including 50.0 percent from three-point range. UC Riverside hit 43.6 percent from the floor, 35.3 percent from downtown, and 92.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Highlanders now hit the road for their Northern California road swing playing at UC Davis on Thursday, February 21 and at Pacific on Saturday, February 23.
