Tucson, AZ - The UC Riverside Softball Team continued play Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Invitational with an 11-3 loss in five innings to Portland State.
The Highlanders got one across in the top of the first as Ashley Ercolano drove home Dionne Anderson for the 1-0 lead, but the Vikings scored five in the bottom of the frame, and added a single run the next to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
Three more runs for PSU in the fourth increased the margin to 9-1, but UC Riverside got two back in the top of the fifth, closing the gap to 9-3. With bases loaded, Anderson drew a walk as one runner came across, and Ercolano laced a single through the left side as another runner came home to score.
Back-to-back singles for the Vikings led off a two-run fifth inning for Portland State, as the game ended with the eight-run mercy rule in effect.
After pitching a shutout earlier in the day, Alyssa Razo lasted just 0.1 innings against the Vikings, giving up four runs and three hits in the loss.
UC Riverside concludes the Wildcat Invitational Sunday morning with an 8 am PT match against Boston University.
