Honolulu, HI—The UC Riverside Women’s Basketball Team embarks on its final regular season road trip this week traveling to Hawai’i on Thursday, March 7 for a 9 pm PT tip, and to Cal State Northridge on Saturday, March 9 at 4 pm.
UCR is currently in tenth in the league standings, but there are still two scenarios that can put them in the Big West Conference Tournament as the eight seed.
The simplest scenario plays out if the Highlanders win both of their remaining games, and UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton lose both of theirs. That way, UC Riverside finishes with a 6-12 mark, one game ahead of the Titans and Anteaters.
The other scenario is more complicated, and involves UCR splitting its final two games and Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine losing both of theirs to create a three-way tie at 5-13.
If the Highlanders beat Cal State Northridge and lose to Hawai'i, they lose the tiebreaker.
If the Highlanders beat Hawai'i and lose to Cal State Northridge, and UC Davis (7-10) finishes in a tie with Long Beach State (8-8) they lose the tiebreaker.
If the Highlanders beat Hawai'i and lose to Cal State Northridge, and Long Beach State finishes ahead of UC Davis the Highlanders are in.
Hawai’i is in the hunt for a top seed in the standings, which would give them a bye until the semifinals of the Big West Tournament. The Wahine have won four of their last five games and are led offensively by Kamilah Martin’s 15.1 points and 9.6 rebounds a game.
Cal State Northridge has struggled as of late, dropping seven of its last nine contests and 10 of 13. Ashlee Guay paces the Matadors averaging 13.4 points per game.
The Rainbow Wahine defeated the Highlanders 65-50 on January 5 (recap/box score), while the Matadors defeated UCR 65-49 on January 3 (recap/box score). View all-time results against Hawai'i. View all-time results against CSUN.
