Riverside—The UC Riverside Softball Team opened play Friday at the Mizuno Invitational battling not just IUPUI, but also inclement weather, and after a 95 minute rain delay midway through the game, the Jaguars scored the winning run in the top of the seventh to take home the 6-5 victory at Amy S. Harrison Field.

The Highlanders scored first, plating a single run in the bottom of the third inning as Nicollete Lujan doubled and was brought home on a sac fly from Alexis Pickett. The Jaguars retook the look in the next inning, scoring two runs to go up 2-1, and added two more in the top of the fifth to open a 4-1 lead.

UCR rallied, and with rain starting to come down, scored three runs to tie the game at four. With runners at first and third, Pickett laced a single up the middle, scoring one run, and Kayla White homered in the next at bat, driving in two for the 4-4 tie.

The game then went into a rain delay, lasting for approximately 95 minutes. When play resumed, Ashley Ercolano hit a solo home run to put UCR on top, 5-4.

IUPUI used a two-out rally in the sixth to tie the game at five, and came through on another two-out rally in the seventh to plate what would be the winning run, 6-5. The Highlanders had a final opportunity to tie or win the game in the bottom of the seventh, but they were retired in order to conclude the game.

Alyssa Razo got the starting nod for UCR, and pitched five innings earning a no decision. Taylor Alvarez took over after the delay, and gave up the winning runs in the loss.

Ariel Shore went 3-for-4 for the day while Lujan went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Due to Friday's weather delays, the Mizuno Invitational schedule has been altered, with the Highlanders gettting a bye until Sunday with a doubleheader against Buffalo at 11:30 am.
