Women's Basketball Concludes Season With 55-54 Loss At Cal State Northridge

Northridge, CA - The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team concluded the 2012-13 season Saturday afternoon with a 55-54 loss at Cal State Northridge in Big West Conference action. Ashlee Guay connected on a layup with four seconds remaining to send CSUN home happy in both teams' final regular season game of the year.
The Highlanders fall to 11-18 overall and 4-14 in league play, while the Matadors improve to 15-15, 9-9.
UCR's Brittany Crain led all players with 23 points while Natasha Hadley added 14 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Haley White led CSUN with 13 points.
Neither team led by more than two possessions in the first half, and there were seven ties scores in the period as the game entered the break knotted at 28-28.
The Matadors found their offense to open the second half ,scoring 12 of the first 16 points to open a 40-32 lead with just over 15 minutes left in the game.
The advantage reached as high as nine, 45-36, at the 12:36 mark, but UC Riverside chipped away at the lead and made it a single possession game, 51-49, following a Hadley jumper with 1:43 to go.
Crain then hit a long ball with 47 seconds left to put the Highlanders on top, 52-51. A layup by Randi Friess 15 seconds later gave the lead back to Cal State Northridge, 53-52, but it was Crain again hitting a jumper with 20 seconds remaining to make it a 54-53 UCR advantage.
After a CSUN timeout, Guay drove the lane and hit the game-winning layup with just four ticks on the clock, and the Highlanders last-second attempt fell short as the Matadors held on for the win.
UC Riverside hit 37.9 percent of its shot for the game while limiting the Matadors to 34.5 percent.
