Box Score - #16 Hawai'i 8, UC Riverside 1
Honolulu, HI - The UC Riverside Softball Team concluded its three-game Big West Conference series at #16 Hawai'i Saturday afternoon with a 12-2 and 8-1 doubleheader loss.
In game one, the Rainbow Wahine jumped out of the gate strong connecting on four home runs en route to a 12-run first inning. Hawai'i tallied eight hits during the frame and sent 16 batters to the plate.
The UCR pitching corps used three pitchers during the inning with Sophie Slagle being tagged for four runs and Alyssa Razo with the remaining eight.
Taylor Alvarez allowed a single in the first inning but after that held the Rainbow Wahine scoreless allowing just two hits the rest of the way.
The Highlanders offense got into gear in the third as Nicolette Lujan started a one-out rally with a single, and advanced to second when Dionne Anderson drew a walk. Ariel Shore then singled to left center to plate Lujan, and Kayla White singled the opposite direction to score Anderson cutting the gap to 12-2.
UC Riverside was retired in order in the fourth, and Anderson reached on an error in the fifth, but the Highlanders could not muster additional offense as Hawai'i cruised to the 10-run win.
In game two, the Wahine scored three runs in the first and four more in the third to go up 7-0. White hit a solo home run for UCR in the fourth, but Hawai'i countered with a solo homer of their own in the next inning to go back up by seven runs, 8-1.
Neither team sent a runner home in the final two innings as the 'Bows completed the three-game sweep.
The UC Riverside Softball Team returns to the mainland for a 10-game homestand beginning next Saturday, April 13 with a non-conference game against San Diego State beginning at noon PT at Amy S. Harrison Field.
