Women's Soccer Can't Hold Lead, Falls 2-1 In Double Overtime At Hawai'i

Honolulu, HI—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team scored late in regulation to take a 1-0 lead, but Hawai'i picked up the equalizer shortly thereafter, and the game-winner in double overtime to pick up a 2-1 victory.

The Rainbow Wahine (6-6-0, 1-1-0) controlled the ball through much of the first half outshooting the Highlanders six to one over the first 45 minutes of play, however neither team was able to get on the board.

UC Riverside (5-4-3, 0-1-1) regrouped at the intermission, though, and in the 79th minute, Tyler Cunningham's cross found Blanca Barrio who buried the ball into the right-hand corner of the net for her third score of the season.

The lead didn't last long, however, as just 37 seconds later, Storm Kenui knotted things up with her fifth goal of the year.

It remained a tie game through the end of regulation and the first overtime period. With 2:56 gone in the second OT, the Highlanders tried to clear the ball out of their own end, but Krystal Pascua was there to intercept it and punch in the game-winner.

UC Riverside returns home this week to take on UC Irvine on Thursday, October 9. Kick off is scheduled got 5 pm PT.
