Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team moved to 2-0 for the first time in its Division I history Thursday with a 100-80 victory over visiting San Jose State. The 100 points scored is a season-high and the most since the squad scored 105 against these same Spartans last season.

Brittany Crain scored a game-high 34 points for UCR while Simone DeCoud added 22, Annelise Ito had 13, and Dynese Adams and Michelle Curry both chipped in with 10. Rebecca Woodberry scored 18 points to lead three SJSU players in double-figures.

The Highlanders had a 10-point lead at halftime, 47-37, but San Jose State quickly cut it to three, 49-46, just 1:23 into the half following a 9-2 run that included three three-pointers. After trading points, UCR extended its margin back to double-digits, 60-50, but could not stop an 8-0 run by the Spartans as the lead was cut to two, 60-58, with 12:15 remaining.

The lead stayed between one and three possessions until DeCoud scored eight of UC Riverside's next 10 points over a 1:04 span to push the margin to 14, 89-75, at the 4:20 mark. From there, the Highlanders outscored the Spartans 11-5 over the rest of the game as UCR cruised to the 20-point victory.

In the first half, UCR jumped out to an 8-0 lead early hitting 4-of-6 from the field while limiting the the Spartans to 0-for-3. The advantage quickly grew to 15, 19-4, following an Ito three-pointer at the 12:36 mark, but SJSU rallied using a 9-0 run to cut the gap to two possessions, 19-13.

The teams then traded points as the lead fluctuated between six and nine until the Highlanders again pushed the margin out to 15, 37-22, following seven consecutive points with just over four minutes remaining.

San Jose State scored eight of the next 10 points to make it 39-30, but the teams traded buckets to conclude the half as UCR led at the break, 47-37.

For the game, the Highlanders shot a blistering 47.9 percent from the field including 50.0 percent from beyond the arc while limiting SJSU to 34.1 percent shooting.

Crain needs just three more points to become the 16th member of the Highlanders 1,000 point club. She will get a chance to do so as UC Riverside takes on San Francisco on Saturday, November 22 at 2 pm PT at the SRC Arena in Riverside.
