Seattle Scores Late In 3-1 Win Over Softball

Riverside—The UC Riverside Softball Team continued action at the Amy S. Harrison Classic Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Seattle. Box Score.
It was a 0-0 game through five innings until the Redhawks scored two runs in the sixth. Bubba Morrow led off with a single, and came home for the first run of the game on a Lisa Maulden triple that bounced off the outfield fence. Jenny Hurst then lifted a sac fly into right field to drive in the game-winning run and put Seattle up 2-0.
The Highlanders got one run back in the bottom of that frame as pinch-runner Samantha Hernandez, who replaced Ashley Ercolano on the basepaths after her double, scored on a Marissa Escalante single to right field.
That cut the margin to 2-1, but Seattle added a single run in the seventh on a solo homer from Kayla Gonzales.
The Highlanders had one last opportunity to tie the game or win, but were retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
UC Riverside now plays Bakersfield Sunday afternoon to conclude the Amy S. Harrison Classic.
