Irvine, CA - The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team dropped its regular season finale Wednesday afternoon at UC Irvine, 7-0, to conclude the Big West portion of its schedule.
The Highlanders fell behind in doubles as UCI's number three duo earned an 8-2 win at number three, and pulled out a close-fought 8-7 victory at number two. The match at the top spot went unfinished once the Anteaters had the doubles point in hand.
In singles, Luis Gastao lost in identical 6-4 sets at #1, while Cooper Bridge fell 6-1, 6-4 at #2. Marcus Vizcarra dropped a 6-2, 6-2 match at number three while Julian Ruffin was handed a 6-3, 6-3 loss at number four.
In the bottom two flights, Jack Felich lost 6-2, 6-0 at #5, and Michael Carella fell 6-2, 6-1 at number six.
"It was a tough loss today," Head Coach Tim Downey stated. "We struggled with the pace a bit, and didn't adjust as well as we could have today. We'll do our best to rebound and be ready for the conference tourney next week."
