Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team received double digit scoring efforts from five players Saturday afternoon, led by Réjane Verin's 15, as the Highlanders topped visiting Cal Poly Pomona, 86-51 (box score/play-by-play).
UC Riverside dominated nearly every facet of the game shooting 44.9 percent from the field, and taking 22 more shots than the Broncos, in large part due to forcing 26 turnovers and grabbing 14 offensive boards.
NCAA Women's Basketball has moved from two, 20-minute halves to four, 10-minute quarters this season. Brittany Crain paced the Highlanders in the first quarter with eight points on three of four shooting from the field, including two of three from three-point range. As a team, UC Riverside hit 61.8 percent of its shots in the first 10 minutes of play, to build a 28-16 lead.
UCR outscored CPP 23-8 in the second quarter led by Inara Nyingifa's nine points. That made the score 48-24 at the break. Verin had 12 of her points by intermission making five of her six shots, while Crain had 11.
In all, 10 of the 11 Highlanders who played dented the scoring column as well as the rebounding column.
The Broncos' Erin Hagan led all scorers with 23 points on eight of 19 shooting from the field, while Priscilla Brooks made five of her 10 shots from the floor. The rest of the team, though, went just four for 18.
The Highlanders conclude preseason play on Saturday, November 7 in a 5 pm PT home game against Cal Baptist University.
