Riverside--The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team evened its record in Big West play Fridayevening with a 2-1 victory over visiting Hawai'i. The Highlanders also moved back over the .500 mark, improving to 7-6-0 overall with the win.
It didn't take long for UC Riverside to jump out on top as Blanca Barrio's free kick with less than three minutes gone in the match found Tatum Lockett in the box for her first score of the year.
The Highlanders made it 2-0 in the 25th minute when Danielle Lopez found Tyler Cunningham streaking down the left sideline. Cunningham beat one defender and then bested the Rainbow Wahine keeper for her fourth goal of the season.
Hawai'i cut the lead in half 13 minutes later when Storm Kenui found Lidia Battiglia with a free kick from the left side to make it 2-1.
Both teams had chances in the second half, but that 2-1 first-half score held up throughout the rest of the match.
The Highlanders remain at home this weekend as they welcome UC Davis to the Inland Empire for a 1 pm PT meeting on Sunday, October 11.
