Box Score Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team picked-up its fourth conference win of the season Saturday night in a three-set sweep at Cal State Fullerton (25-13, 25-18, 25-17).
The Highlanders four wins in Big West play are tied for the most in program history. The victory also gave UC Riverside a season sweep of the Titans—a team they had previously lost to 20 straight times.
Helena Peric continued her strong play as she led the Highlanders with 15 kills, followed by Fabiana Rosas with 11, and Alex Gresham with nine. UCR also got strong performances from Maddie Hubbell with 15 digs, and Chelsea Doyle, who had 37 assists and 9 digs in the victory.
Cal State Fullerton (0-23, 0-11) was led by Megann Delgado's 10 kills, and Mackenzie Olsen with 24 assists.
UCR (9-16, 4-8) jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first, and still led 19-13 when the Highlanders ran off six straight points to take the set, 25-13. Alex Gresham had five first-set kills to leads the offensive charge.
The second set saw the Highlanders continue to dominate the match. Midway through the second set UCR led 13-12, but that was as the close the set would get as UC Riverside took seven of the next ten points en route to a, 25-18, win. Peric had seven of her 15 kills in the second frame to lead the team.
The third and final set played out the same as the first two, with UCR jumping out to a 15-6 lead on the strength of kills from Rosas and Peric, both of whom finished the set with five kills. UC Riverside closed out the third set 25-17, and the match 3-0 for their first conference sweep since a November 5, 2011 victory over UC Davis.
The Highlanders play two matches at home this week as part of Homecoming 2015—Friday, November 13 against Cal Poly and Saturday, November 14 versus UC Santa Barbara. Both matches begin at 7:30 pm PT.
