Box Score Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's basketball team led the entire first half, and 28-27 at the break, but the UCLA Bruins outscored them 29-14 in the third quarter en route to a, 70-56, victory.
UCR (6-7) led by as much as four points in the first quarter, but would finish the opening frame with just a one point margin, 15-14.
Rejane Verin scored 12 of the Highlanders 15 first quarter points.
The Highlanders opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run, for what would be their largest lead of the game at 21-14.
With the score 27-22, UCLA (8-3) scored five straight points to force the third tie of the game, but a Brittany Crain free throw would close out the half with the Highlanders leading, 28-27.
Verin led all scorers with 16 points in the first half, shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the field.
Monique Billings had eight points and eight rebounds to lead the Bruins.
At the 4:36 mark in the third quarter, having just taken the lead 36-34, the Bruins went on a 10-0 run to get the score to 46-34. UCLA would push the lead to as much 15 in the period and lead, 56-42, heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Kari Korver scored all her 11 points in the third, connecting on 3-of-5 three pointers.
Clemence Lefebrve (pictured) opened the fourth quarter with a three from the left corner to cut the deficit to 11, 56-45. The visitors responded by outscoring UCR 8-2 over three and a half minutes to push the margin to a game-high 17 points, 64-47.
The Highlanders would score five straight points, but got no closer than 12, as the Bruins would go on for the, 70-56, victory.
Verin scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Highlanders. Crain scored nine points and pulled down six boards, snapping her streak of 12 straight games scoring in double figures.
The Bruins had four players score in double figures and two record double doubles. Kennedy Burke scored 10 points, and Korver had 11.
Kacy Swain scored 14 points and collected a game-high 15 caroms, while Billings led them in scoring with 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
