Riverside—The first five hitters in the Loyola Marymount lineup combined to go eight for 22 with five runs scored and four RBIs Tuesday evening, in a 5-2 victory at UC Riverside.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the first as Austin Miller led off the game with a single through the right side of the infield, stole second, and scored when David Fletcher also singled through the right side.

LMU doubled up its lead in the top of the fourth. Sean Watkins reached on a fielding error by UCR shortstop Dante Chupek, and moved to third when Cassidy Brown singled through the left side. Ted Boeke then laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Watkins.

The Lions made it a 4-0 game in the top of the fifth thanks to a two-RBI double down the left field line by Watkins that scored Billy Wilson and Tanner Donnels.

UC Riverside got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out rally. Ausitn Colvin singled through the left side, and Joe Chavez beat out an infield single to put runners on first and second. Casey Henderson then doubled to right center to make it 4-2 LMU.

The Lions picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Wilson's double to right brought Miller plateward.

Brenton Arriaga (1-0) went six innings for the Lions allowing five hits, walking two and giving up just two runs. The LMU (6-2) bullpen allowed just two hits over the final three innings.

Kevin Sprague took the loss for the Highlanders allowing seven hits and walking two while giving up four runs, three of which were earned.

The Highlanders hit the road this weekend for a four-game series at Washington State beginning Thursday at 6 pm.
