Los Angeles- The UC Riverside Softball Team moves to 28-7 on the season after downing Seattle and Loyola Marymount in its final games of the LMU/Muscle Milk Invitational II Sunday, 5-1 and 10-2, respectively.
The Highlanders registered multiple records over the weekend including the most wins in a single season and the first no-hitter in the program's Division 1-era.
Red-shirt junior Chelsea Ponce took the mound after throwing a no-hitter against Bethune Cookman Saturday, pitching both games today earning herself 20 wins on the season. Ponce struck out nine, and gave up just four hits out of 40 batters faced at the conclusion of today's games.
Three runs scored in the fifth inning against Seattle helped ensure a Highlander victory with a home run over the left field fence by Haley Harris that brought in two RBI, and a home run by Chelsey Holley the very next inning.
In game two of the day, the Highlanders' offense couldn't be stopped as the squad blasted 13 hits, bringing in six runs in the top of the seventh inning to solidify an undefeated weekend before heading into conference play.
Leading UC Riverside from the batter's box this weekend was Haley Harris, recording 11 hits in 18 at-bats for a .611 batting average. Her time in the box included two doubles, a triple, and one home run.
The Highlanders open up Big West play Friday, March 27 as they travel to the Aloha State to take on Hawai'i.
