Baseball Drops 6-3 Decision To Hawai'i

Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team was looking to get back on the winning track in conference play Thursday evening, welcoming the Rainbow Warriors to The Plex, but Hawai'i's LJ Brewster tossed a no-hitter through four-and-two-thirds innings, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Highlanders.

Joie Dunyon (1-3) matched zeroes in the scoring column with Brewster (6-4) through the first three innings, but in the top of the fourth, a double, a ground out and a sac fly put the Rainbow Warriors (19-26, 10-9) on top, 1-0.

They added four more runs in the top of the fifth, as Hawai'i sent eight men to the plate. Kaeo Aliviado struck the big blow with a bases-loaded two-run double to deep center. Hawai'i's final run of the game came plateward in the top of the sixth when Chase Ka'aua scored on Jacob Sheldon-Collins' single through the left side.

Adonis Morrison broke up Brewster's no-hitter with two outs in the fifth on a single to right, and the Highlanders got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Vince Fernandez's single scored Mark Contreras. UCR (13-33, 2-14) cut the lead to three in the bottom of the seventh on Morrison's RBI double to right center and AJ Sawyer's RBI ground out.

The Highlanders threatened again in the eighth getting the lead-off hitter, Joe Chavez, on with a walk. He stole second, but Hawai'i reliever Andrew Jonas struck out the side, stranding Chavez in scoring position.

Quintin Torres-Costa retired the Highlanders in order in the ninth to record his seventh save of the season
