Maddie Hubbell Becomes UCR's All-Time Digs Leader In 3-1 Loss At UC Davis

Davis, CA—On a night when senior libero Maddie Hubbell logged 17 digs to reach 1,558 for her career, and become UCR Volleyball's all-time digs leader surpassing UCR Athletics Hall of Famer and Two-Time All American Sheryl Benson-Rawlins' mark of 1,556, the Highlanders fell 3-1 at UC Davis.

The Highlanders narrowly dropped the opening set 25-22, but responded by taking the second 25-18 to tie the match at a set apiece.

UCR got four kills from Brooke Callahan in the second set, while Sherman, Jordyn Griggs, Cristina Maietta and Meg Graham had three each in a frame, where the Highlanders hit .448 as a team.

UC Davis got out to a, 17-13, lead in the third, and outscored UCR 8-3 to take the third set, 25-16, to reclaim the advantage in the match two set to one.

In the fourth and final set, the Aggies broke an 11-11 tie with four straight points to lead, 15-11. The Highlanders closed the gap and trailed 18-17 later in the set, before the hosts closed out the set and the match by taking seven of the final nine points.

Kendall Wellbrecht equaled Sherman's 16 kills to share match-high honors, and lead UC Davis in the victory. Callahan finished with 10 kills, and Maietta chipped in 16 digs, while Chelsea Doyle tallied 40 assists and 10 digs.

Frances Camandang also had 10 digs to make it four in double digits for the Highlanders, who suffered their first loss when getting 10 plus digs from four players.

UC Riverside Volleyball remains on the road with a Saturday night meeting at UC Irvine scheduled for 7 pm.
