Riverside—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team battled The Beach for 110 minutes Thursday evening in search of its third straight victory to close out the 2016 season, but the Highlanders had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
UCR (5-10-4, 2-5-1) controlled the pace of play throughout the match, belying the teams' positioning in the Big West standings: Long Beach State (7-6-4, 3-1-3) is fighting for one of the four conference postseason berths, while the Highlanders had their sights set on sixth place in the league.
Despite a number of decent chances, UC Riverside was unable to dent the back of the net. Alanna Guzman pitched her sixth shutout of the season, and lowered her goals against average to 1.12.
The Highlanders also honored their seven graduating seniors prior to kick off as Sammy Arellano, Blanca Barrio, Tayler Dragoo, Tatum Lockett, Danielle Lopez, Brittany Mata, Kelly Velasquez played their last match in a UC Riverside uniform.
Dragoo ended the season as the Highlanders leading scorer with four goals and nine points, while Barrio's four assists were tops on the team. Barrio also finished her UC Riverside career sitting atop the program's career assist chart with 17.
