Matt Lutz Tied For Overall Lead, Men's Golf Eighth After Day One At The Nick Watney Invite

Fresno, CA—Matt Lutz is tied for the overall lead and the Men's Golf Team sits eighth after day one at the Nick Watney Invitational at the San Joaquin Country Club. (leaderboard)
Lutz opened the tournament with a birdie on the 405 yard 10th hole in a round that had six birdies and four bogies. He also made birdie at the 630 yard par 5 fourth, and followed that up with a birdie on no. 5 in carding a three-under par 68.
In the second round, he shot an ever par 71 to remain at -3 for the tournament, and in a tie for overall lead with Saint Mary's Perry Cohen and Cal Poly's Justin De Los Santos.
The Highlanders were tied for the lead after the first 18, but fell to eighth after shooting a +14 over 298 in round two—they shot even par in the morning round. Saint Mary's and BYU are tied for the team lead at +4, one stroke ahead of host Fresno State at +5.
Tomorrow's final round gets underway at 9 am for UCR.
