Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Tennis team heads to Las Vegas for a trio of matches over two days. The first is on Friday against New Mexico State at 11 am.
Saturday they will take on Weber State in a match a slated for 10 am, followed by a 2 pm affair with host UNLV.
UCR (1-5) earned its first victory on the season Sunday over Lewis-Clark State, 4-3. In the win, Calvin Ngo outlasted his opponent in a match deciding three setter. After dropping the first set and being down 4-1 in the third, he came back to win 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
New Mexico State (0-2) is the defending Western Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament champions. The Aggies earned its third bid ever in program history to the NCAA Tournament last season. They won last year's meeting 6-1.
Weber State (0-2) was selected first in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll this season. They captured the 2015 Big Sky Conference regular season title. Last year versus the Highlanders, the Wildcats prevailed, 4-0, as several matches did not finish.
Event host UNLV is 1-1 on the season. In the last meeting between the teams, all matches were not completed, however the Rebels were awarded the 4-0 victory.Expected to compete for the Highlanders:
