Riverside--The UC Riverside Softball Team picked up two victories today over Yale today with an 8-0 five inning win in a game one and an 8-1 triumph in the second game of the double header in the Mizuno Invitational.
UC RIVERSIDE 8, YALE 0 (five innings)Kaylynn Pierce dominated the Bulldog lineup, allowing just one hit over five innings in a complete game shutout. Pierce carried a no hitter into the fifth, but allowed a one out double to center field.
The Highlanders jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, registering seven hits over that span. Jenna Curtan had a bases clearing double to right center in the second to break the game open.
UCR would tack on three more runs in third and fourth innings on four hits. Chelsey Holley and Hannah Rodriguez would each drive a run, and Curtan drove in her fourth run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
After the double broke up her bid for a no-no, Pierce retired the next two hitters in the top half of the fifth to earn her ninth win on the season.
UC RIVERSIDE 8, YALE 1In the second game of the double header, the final of the 2016 Mizuno Invitational. the Highlanders again put up eight runs on the Bulldogs, while getting a strong pitching performance in their, 8-1 win.
Natalie Sanchez and Haley Harris each had three RBI's in the win, and Tayler Misfeldt scattered seven hits over seven innings, while allow just one run to score.
Courtnie Ploesch went 3 for 4 at the plate and scored twice. Curtan and Rodriguez each had two hits in the victory. Misfeldt picked up her Big West leading 11th win of the season.
The UC Riverside Softball Team (20-7) travels to Northridge to face Idaho State and the Yale Bulldogs once again Saturday, March 19 in the CSUN Mizuno Classic.
