Men's Tennis Falls At UC Davis, 7-0

Davis—Just two days removed from picking up its UCR Division I record 12th win of the season, the Highlander Men's Tennis Team was blanked by #65 UC Davis, 7-0.

UCR (12-11, 1-2) failed to pick up a point in a match for just the third time this season, last season's team was shutout on eight occasions. UC Davis (15-3, 2-0) was victorious in no. 1 and no. 3 doubles leaving the no. 2 match unfinished, and giving the Aggies the doubles point.

In the singles matches, Julian Ruffin, Kyle McCann and Calvin Ngo nabbed the first set in each of their contests, but were unable to hold on for wins.

Coach Mattias Johanson on today's match, "Sloppy and unfocused doubles versus a national ranked conference team, which was disappointing. However we talked about really putting in a 100 percent effort in singles, and the guys did. Score was 0-7, but we were up 4-3 after an hour into singles— so now we know we can compete versus the best teams in our conference. We just need to believe that we can compete, and when we do, we will be ready to upset someone."

The Highlanders return to the courts Friday, April 8 at home against Cal Poly at 1 pm.
