Riverside—The UC Riverside Baseball Team ran its winning streak to four games last week, including a pair of victories over #17 Long Beach State, before falling to the Dirtbags in the series finale on Sunday. That streak improved the Highlanders record to 17-20, 5-4, and moved them into a tie for fourth place with UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Conference standings.

This week, UC Riverside hosts San Diego in a Tuesday non-conference meeting at 6 pm PT, before welcoming CSUN to The Plex for a three-game Big West series over the weekend.

Angel Landazuri (3-3, 6.94) gets the start for the Highlanders against San Diego. His last start came on April 3 vs. UC Davis, and the right-hander lasted just 1.2 innings, giving up six hits and seven runs, four of which were earned. The Aggies ended up winning the game, 13-12 (box score/recap).

Lefty Austin Sodders (3-3, 2.90) and righty Ricky Delgado (0-6, 5.57) will take their typical Friday and Saturday night turns on the hill against the Matadors, while Sunday's starter is still to be determined.

Vince Fernandez continues to lead the Highlanders in all three major batting categories—.354 batting average, .451 on base percentage, and .463 slugging percentage. Those figures are the fourth, fifth and eighth highest respectively in the conference.

This is the second meeting of the season between UC Riverside and San Diego. The teams met one week ago, as the Highlanders came from behind to pick up a 5-4 victory over the Toreros (box score/recap).

San Diego dropped three straight over the weekend at San Francisco to fall to 20-23 on the season.

The Highlanders are 42-43-1 all-time against the Toreros, and had lost eight of nine to them prior to their victory last Tuesday.
