Indian Wells-The UC Riverside Men's Tennis season came to a close with a, 4-0, defeat in the first round of the 2016 Big West Championships at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The doubles point went the way of the Anteaters, who prevailed 6-1, and 6-0 in the no. 2 and no. 3 matches. Early in the first set of singles play, the Highlanders held leads on five courts. UC Irvine made a comeback and went on win the matches in lines 6, 2, and 1 to clinch the victory and advance to face #1 seed UC Santa Barbara Thursday.
With a 13-14 record on the year, the 2016 UCR Men's Tennis team established a new Division I mark for victories in a season in Head Coach Mattias Johansson's first season at the helm.
Wednesday was the final match for seniors, Hans Baumstark, Calvin Ngo, Sean Robles, Julian Ruffin, Marcus Vizcarra and Sean Yun.
