Riverside--The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team battled visiting Seattle into overtime Thursday evening, but it was the Redhawks who secured the golden goal as Brie Hooks scored in the 95th minute of play for the 1-0 victory.
Seattle (4-4-1) had the better of the play in the first half, outshooting the Highlanders (3-4-3) 5-1 over the first 45 minutes. The Redhawks were unable to find the back of the net, however, and UC Riverside flipped the script in the second half, outshooting Seattle, 5-3.
The horn signaling the end of regulation sounded, and the match was still tied at zero, and the teams headed into the first overtime period.
With just over four minutes gone in the extra stanza, Ayana Robles corralled a ball on the left side of the UC Riverside defense, and found Hooks streaking down the right side of the field, Hooks' shot found its way over the outstretched hands of Highlanders' keeper Alanna Guzman, and settled into the net for her fifth goal of the season, and the 1-0 win.
UC Riverside remains at home this weekend hosting CSU Bakersfield on Sunday beginning at 6 pm PT.
