Moraga, CA—The UC Riverside Volleyball Team fell in straight sets, 3-0, to Nevada in game two of the St. Mary's Tournament Saturday. (18-25, 17-25, 23-25)
Mickayla Sherman and Meg Graham led the Highlanders with 10 and nine kills respectively, while Chelsea Doyle checked in with 28 assists and nine in the loss.
In the opening frame, neither club would establish a notable rally. The Highlander trailed early 7-5, before winning two straight points to tie it at 7. That would be the last time in the set the Highlanders would win consecutive points and the Wolfpack never took more than three in a row, but won the first set 25-18.
Midway through the second set, Nevada led 15-9. UCR cut the margin to four at 21-17, but the Wolfpack would go on to win the second 25-17.
The third set was the most competitive of the match, as the teams played with a point of each other until the Nevada went ahead 14-12. UC Riverside would tie the match at 14-14, thanks to a Wolfpack service error followed by a Chelsea Doyle ace. The teams played point-for-point until the Highlanders earned a 22-21 lead, but the Nevada won four of the final five points to take the third set 25-23 and the match 3-0
The Highlanders return to action in the Saint Mary's Tournament at 6 pm, when they take on Middle Tennessee in the first between the programs.
