Men's Tennis Drops Season Opener, 5-2, To UC San Diego

Full Match Results

Riverside--The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team dropped its season opening match against UC San Diego, 5-2, Saturday in the SRC Tennis Center.

The Highlanders got behind in the early dropping all three doubles matches staking the Tritons to a 1-0 advantage. Freshman Nabil Abdallah prevailed in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 over Alexandre Miaule to even the match 1-1.

UC San Diego then took three of four remaining matches, all three-setters, to secure the match victory only leaving the final score in doubt with action still taking place in line 1 singles.

Cooper Bridge, who missed all of last season due to injury, returned the court in style outlasting Eric Tseng, 6-1, 7-6, 6-4 at the no. 1 position.

"We gotta be stronger mentally and physically-can't lose three out of four three-setters, especially playing at less than full strength.", said Head Coach Mattias Johansson of Saturday's defeat.

The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team returns to action next week with three matches on the docket, a double-header at home versus Hope International and Nevada on Friday, before heading to Los Angeles to battle USC on Saturday.
