Men's Soccer Scoring Streak Ends In Loss At UC Irvine

Irvine, CA—Despite matching a conference season-high with 15 shots on Wednesday night, the UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team (1-11-0, 1-4-0) was shutout in a 4-0 loss on its quick one-game road trip to UC Irvine (7-4-3, 2-1-2).

MATCH NOTES
The loss marks the first time the Highlanders have been shutout in Big West play this season. UCR had scored in each of its first four conference matches, good for the second-longest streak to open Big West in program history.

The shutout also ends the Highlanders' run of five straight matches overall with a goal, tied for their fourth-longest run since 2013.

Redshirt junior midfielder Edward Benito came off the bench to lead the Highlanders with four shots. That doubled his previous career-high of two, a mark he reached on two separate ocassions in September.

UC Riverside has now recorded double-digit shots in six of its last eight outings. The Highlanders are averaging 13.25 shots per game over that stretch, nearly two shots more than their season-average of 11.4.
