
Men's Cross Country Takes 8th, Irani Finishes 18th To Lead Highlanders At Big West Championships

Riverside, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Cross Country Team finished in 8th-place as the host of the 2017 Big West Championships on Saturday morning with a team score of 158. Redshirt sophomore Arman Irani (25:09.2) finished 18th overall to lead the Highlanders in the Men's 8k.

MEET NOTES
Arman Irani's 18th-place finish was 15 spots higher than his 33rd-place result at the 2016 Big West Championships (story). He has yet to finish outside of the top-20 in four races this season, leading the Highlanders in all four outings.
In just his third career race, freshman Jonathan Lee took 26th overall, good for the highest finish of any current Highlander in his Big West Championship debut. Lee's previous career-best finish had been 29, set two weeks ago at the UCR Highlander Classic (story).
Sophomore Brandon Shields finished 36th overall, improving 16 spots from his 52nd-place finish in the 2016 Big West Championships.
Sophomore James Sever finished 42nd overall in his Big West Championship debut, his second-highest finish of the season.
This was the last of three home meets for UC Riverside in 2017. On Friday, November 10, the Highlanders will compete in the NCAA West Regionals in Seattle, Washington.
