Palo Alto, CA—In its first road game of the season Friday night, the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team (0-3) was defeated by No. 14 Stanford (1-2) 53-43. Senior guard Michelle Curry scored a team-high 15 points, but it wasn't enough for the Highlanders to overcome a 24.3 percent shooting night as a team.
KEY RUN
After UCR took a 4-2 lead out of the gates, the Cardinal answered with a 22-2 run that extended early into the 2nd quarter, giving the home side a 24-6 lead with 8:44 remaining in the half.
GAME NOTES
Michelle Curry led the Highlanders in scoring for the second straight game, adding two steals and a 6-of-8 mark from the free throw line to go along with her 15 points. She has now scored in double-figures in 12 of her last 13 games dating back to last season.
While UC Riverside had its struggles on the offensive end, that wasn't the case on the defensive side, especially in the second half. The Highlanders held the Cardinal to just 18.2 percent (6-for-33) shooting in the second half, allowing UCR to end the game on a 10-2 run.
The 53 points allowed were the second-fewest that the Highlanders have given up against a top-25 opponent in program history. The program record is 47 points allowed in a 50-47 win over No. 16 Vanderbilt on Dec. 6, 2008 (

Redshirt sophomore forward Skyler Lewis set new season-highs with ten rebounds and two steals to lead UC Riverside. It was the second time in her career that she reached double-figures on the glass.
The Highlanders forced 12 first half turnovers, setting a new season-high for a single half. For the night, they reached season-highs in steals (9), rebounds (44), and blocks (5) and had their lowest turnover total (10).
UCR held Stanford to just 19-of-64 (.297) from the field and 3-of-28 (.107) from three-point range, well under the Cardinal's season marks of 34.6 percent overall and 29.3 percent from deep coming into the game. The 25 misses from deep were the most for a Highlander opponent in their last 10 games, since CSUN went 10-for-36 on February 11, 2017 (
