Men's Tennis Dominant On Home Court In 7-0 Sweep Of Whittier, And 5-2 Victory Over Western New Mexico

Riverside–The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team reigned supreme Saturday on the SRC Tennis Courts in their 7-0 sweep of Whittier, and their 5-2 victory over Western New Mexico.

In the morning win over the Poets, the Highlanders quickly claimed the doubles point on the strength of Tadeas Lansky's and Nabil Abdallah's 6-2 dispatching of You/Koszowski in no. 1 doubles, as well as Cooper Bridge and Anderson Ju getting past Kettering/Butselaar, 6-4 on court 2.

UCR swept all six singles matches to complete their 7-0 blanking of the Poets.

"Nice to start our long home stand with a win. This stretch of matches will really determine how our season will go.", said Coach Johansson.

Against Western New Mexico in the afternoon match, Lanksy/Abdallah were victorious in line one doubles play, 6-2, over Gnilozubou and Da Lio. Kyle McCann and Max Cohen linked up to clinch to doubles point outlasting O'Keefe and Gravobig, 7-5.

The Highlanders took four of six singles matches punctuated by Ju's 7-5, 6-0 win at the no. 6 spot to seal the win over the Mustangs.

"A good team win versus a solid team got to see some great tennis from the lower half of the lineup, which was really good to see. We just need to build on this for next weekend's matches.", Coach Johansson expressed after the victory.

The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team hosts South Dakota and Youngstown in a double-header next Sunday March 5 at 10 am and 3:30 pm respectively.
