UCR Trails 3-7 All-time

Honolulu, HI–For the second time in six days, the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team will take on the 2016 Big West Tournament Champions, Hawai'i. The Highlanders visit the Aloha State to face the Rainbow Wahine in the Stan Sheriff Center on Wednesday, February 8 at 9 pm PT.

UCR won both of its game last week, the last of which was at Cal Poly on Saturday, when they overcame an eight-point first half deficit to claim a, 72 69, victory over the Mustangs.

Lauren Holt led three UCR players in double figures with 19 points– her fifth double-digit scoring output in nine Big West games this season. She is averaging 11.4 points per game in conference, and has connected on five of her last 10 attempts from long distance.

Réjane Vérin, who leads the conference in scoring (16.6/g), and is second in both rebounding (8.1/g) and assists (4.2/g), nearly tallied a triple-double with 16 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in the win at Cal Poly.

Michelle Curry has gotten back in the flow as of late, notching double-digit scoring games in three of the last five contests. She went off for 17 points in just 18 minutes of play on Saturday afternoon.

The Highlanders lead the Big West in steals with 8.7 and blocks at 4.4 per game in league play. They rank second in points allowed per game (61.6) and opponents field goal percentage (37.4) versus conference competition.

Hawai'i dropped both its games on their visit to Southern California last week, most recently at CSUN, where they fell 67-56. Lahni Salanoa led the Rainbow Wahine with 16 points in the loss.

Sarah Toeaina leads Hawai'i averaging 17.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per league game, while Briana Harris adds 10.9 points, and Salanoa contributes 9.6 points per contest.

Hawai'i ranks 21st in the nation in defending the three, and holds opponents to .275 shooting from beyond the arc for the year.

Skyler Lewis and Vérin each recorded double-doubles in the Highlanders'  63-45 victory over Hawai'i at the SRC Arena last Thursday. The 45 points UCR held Hawai'i to matched their best defensive performance against a Big West foe this year.

When the clubs met on the island a year ago, UCR came away with the first victory against Hawai'i in program's history, 77-74. The Highlanders trails the all-time series 7-3, but prevailed in three straight matchups with the Rainbow Wahine.
