Honolulu, HI–Réjane Vérin scored a season-high 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in leading the UC Riverside Women's Basketball Team in a, 79-59, victory over Hawai'i in the Stan Sheriff Center Wednesday night.
Lauren Holt and Verin took caring of the scoring in the first half. Holt pouring in 12 of her 15 in the half in the opening period, and Vérin erupting for 14 in the second, after going scoreless in quarter number one.
UCR held the Rainbow Wahine 25 percent in each of the first two quarters (4-16, 3-12). The home side got 13 of their 29 points at the charity, but still trailed by 13, 42-29 at the intermission.
Cleménce Lefebvre got the start in place of Simone DeCoud, who sat out with an illness, tallying five points, four rebounds five assists and zero turnovers, and playing all 20 minutes of the first half. She would log nine points, six rebounds, and six assists in the win.
The Highlanders would continue to control the game, and push the lead to as much 28 in the fourth, before setting on a, 79-59, final score.
Michelle Curry, although saddled with foul trouble much a game, still found her way to 14 points on 4-5 shooting, 6-8 at the line in 20 minutes of play.
For Verin, it was her seventh double-double of the season. Holt would finish with 21 points on eight of 12 shooting from the field, 3-5 from long distance in the victory–her second
The Rainbow Wahine had a nine-game conference winning streak heading into the mid-week match-up, the last defeat came at the hands of the Highlanders on January 16, 2016, 77-74.
UCR returns home to face CSUN on Saturday, February 11 in their "Think Pink Game" in honor of breast cancer awareness.
