Riverside–The UC Riverside Softball Team's sixth inning rally came up short, as they fell to Maryland 6-3 in the Highlander Classic.
The Highlanders fell behind early to the Terrapins, who put up two runs in the top of the first. In the third, they added three more, chasing starter Tayler Misfeldt. Anessa Cepeda would come on in relief, and allow a run in an inning and two thirds of work before giving way to Haley Marschall.
Meanwhile, Maryland starter Madison Martin held UCR to just two hits until the sixth, when the home side got on the board thanks to a pinch hit single by Chelsey Holley with the bases loaded that plated two runs. The Highlanders would tack on another run, but no more as Maryland prevailed 6-3.
The UC Riverside Softball Team takes on the Iona Gaels Sunday at 2 pm in the Highlander Classic finale.
