Strong Singles Play Earns Men's Tennis, 4-2, Victory Over Southern Utah In Flagstaff

Flagstaff, AZ–The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team knocked off Southern Utah, 4-2, to improve to 9-10 overall on the year. It was the Highlanders eighth win in the last 11 matches.

Southern Utah, a much improved squad this year was coming off of it's historic upset of No. 1 (Big Sky Standings) Idaho in it's first-ever Big Sky Conference victory.
 
The Highlanders had to fight back against the Thunderbirds after going down 0-2.

UCR dropped the doubles point losing matches at the no. 1 and no. 3 position by identical scores of 6-3. The paring of Andy Ju and Cooper Bridge dominated their opponents 6-0 at the no. 2 spot.
 
The first point for the Highlanders came from the no. 2 singles spot, where sophomore Kyle McCann won his match routinely 6-3, 6-3. Nabil Abdallah then tied the team score at 2-2 by getting past his opponent 6-2, 6-1 at the no. 4 spot.

Andy Ju then put the Highlanders in the lead when he prevailed in his Iine six match,  6-3, 6-1.
 
The final two matches went the distance for the Highlanders as Cooper Bridge and Gilbert Chung were both in three sets matches at lines 1 and 5.

Bridge, the Senior Captain, clinched the match for the UC Riverside outlasting his opponent 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

Chung's match was left unfinished once the Highlanders clinched the match.
 
After clinching the match for the Highlanders Bridge stated, "I'm really proud of the team and I'm excited about the direction that we're heading. Clinching a match is always an awesome feeling, but clinching for my teammates and my coach is something that's really special to me. As a senior, I not only want to win as many matches as possible, I want to see my teammates succeed."
 
With the victory the Highlanders win total stands at nine, just four wins shy of tying last years' record breaking season.

The team concludes the Arizona road trip Friday, March 17 at 10 am versus Northern Arizona.
