Buies Creek, NC–The UC Riverside Men's Tennis Team was edged 4-3 by Campbell University for its first loss in three matches in the state of North Carolina.
The Camels got up a point early taking the first two doubles matches to finish by the identical scores of 6-1 at lines no. 1 and 3. Cooper Bridge and Gilbert Chung prevailed 4-3 on court no. 2 over Campbell's O'Neal and Sola.
The Highlanders fell behind 3-0 after falling on courts three and four in singles play. Bridge (7-6, 6-1) and Chung (7-6, 6-2) brought the Highlanders back into the match with straight sets victories of their own at positions one and five respectively.
Anderson Ju then battled back from being down a frame to outlast Louis Monterosso, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in line six singles to even the match. Kyle McCann earned a 7-6 first victory over Gerald Sola, but was unable to hold him off in sets two and three, 3-6, 1-6 as UCR suffered its second defeat in the last six matches.
The Highlanders will head to the state of Virginia for matches at Norfolk State and Radford Wednesday and Thursday.
